After our successful hackathon last year (https://www.aerzteblatt.de/archiv/185701/IT-Sicherheit-Wenn-Hacker-helfen), this year we want to spent again a weekend hacking away on a exciting challenge. This time it is going to be about lung infections and what important role computer simulations play in the research.
But we would not be the Health Hackers if we were not doing this in a fun and creative way. So, we decided to gamify the computer simulation model and to start developing a game around this serious topic. This new genre of games is called “serious game” (https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Serious_game) and it was experienced to be both fun and helpful in research e.g. FoldiT https://fold.it/portal/.
So, our call goes out to all of you – data scientist, coders, designers but also to all others who love gaming and who are interested in bio-medical questions – no matter if still a student, a professional or retired. Everybody is welcomed to join the challenge. You are going to work in interdisciplinary teams to come up with concepts of games or even playable prototypes. During the weekend you will get support of medical and game development professionals either by mentoring or lectures. At the end of the weekend a jury of gamers, scientists and experts will judge the games and hand over a price for the winning team. But ask yourself: Isn´t it also rewarding to be able to play all the other cool games which will be developed during the weekend ? We think so, thats why we are scheduling a gaming session at the end of the hackathon!
